Team Event Results
It was a snowy start to Sunday's Team Event at the Howard Table Tennis Centre in Rainham. Five teams contested the main Team Event consisting of four premiership pairs and one team from division one. The teams were Steve and Dan Broad of Meopham C, Adrian Foster of Sutton A with Chris Penning of Meopham B, Emma Tovey and Maurice Butler of Meopham C, Michael Sefton and Nick Rogers of Meopham D, and Jill Shipton and Peter Rushbrook of Dartfordians B and A.
Round 1
The first round saw the Broads against Adrian and Chris with a close five set match between Steve and Adrian ending with Steve taking the fifth 11-5. The other matches were closely fought with Adrian and Chris winning the round 3-2.
The other match saw Maurice and Emma taking on Nick and Michael. Michael took a set from both Emma and Maurice, and Nick took a set from Maurice but it ended 5-0 to Emma and Maurice.
Round 2
Round two saw Adrian and Chris against Maurice and Emma. The doubles was closely fought with Adrian and Chris winning in the fifth and a close match seeing Emma beating Adrian in the fifth set. Overall it was a 4-1 win to Adrian and Chris.
Meanwhile, Jill and Peter took on Dan and Steve with a very close doubles with Dan and Steve taking the fifth. The deciding final match saw Peter winning the first two sets against Steve, but Steve battled back to level the match at two sets all. The final set went to deuce with Peter taking it 12-10 which meant that Jill and Peter took the round 3-2.
Round 3
The third round saw a very close match-up with Chris and Adrian taking on Jill and Peter. Adrian fought back from two sets down against Peter to take the fifth 11-2. After Chris beat Peter in four sets, the decider was between Adrian and Jill, with Jill winning in four sets and taking the round 3-2.
The other match-up was the Broads against Michael and Nick. Michael took Dan to deuce in fifth set but Dan fought through to win 15-13. Nick took Steve to five sets after being two sets down, but Steve took the fifth 11-9. Overall it was a 5-0 victory to Steve and Dan.
Round 4
Round four saw Emma and Maurice take on Dan and Steve. A very close match between Emma and Dan went to five sets with Emma taking the fifth 11-8. Maurice got a leg from Dan, but Steve and Dan took the round 4-1.
The other match was Michael and Nick versus Peter and Jill. Michael took a set from Jill and Nick took a set from both Peter and Jill, but Peter and Jill took the round 5-0.
Round 5
In the final round, Peter and Jill took on Emma and Maurice. Emma beat Peter in four and Jill took Maurice in straight sets. A closely fought doubles fell in Peter and Jill's favour in the fifth and Peter beat Maurice in four. The final match saw Jill taking the first two sets against Emma, but Emma put in a great performance to come back and take the match. Overall it was a 3-2 win for Jill and Peter.
The other match saw Nick and Michael against Chris and Adrian. Michael took a set from both Chris and Adrian, but Chris and Adrian eventually won 5-0.
Final Table
The round three match proved to be a vital win for Jill and Peter over Adrian and Chris as it meant that Jill and Peter took the event on wins. A solid performance from Steve and Dan saw them take third.

Consolation Plate Event
The Consolation Plate Even was contested by 4½ teams. The teams were Chris Brett and Arie Van Der Leer of Meopham H, Lynn Tovey and Gavin Tovey of Meopham G, Daniel Fraser and Mark Foxwell of Culverstone B and A, Zhong Jiao Tan and Loiyun Guo of Meopham G and Helene Spence of Culverstone B. The odd number was overcome by Helene playing each round with one of the players who was on a bye.
Round 1
The first round saw Arie and Chris take on Lynn and Gavin. Arie and Gavin had a very close match going to deuce in the fifth but Gavin took the game 14-12. With the doubles going to Arie and Chris, they took the round 3-2.
The other match saw Dan and Mark against Tan and Guo. Dan had two close singles matches, but won them both in four. Overall it was 5-0 to Dan and Mark.
Round 2
Round two saw Helene paired with Tan against Arie and Chris. Tan took a set from Chris and beat Arie in four sets. Overall it was 4-1 to Arie and Chris.
Meanwhile, Lynn and Gavin took on Dan and Mark. A closely fought doubles saw Dan and Mark take the match in the fifth. The final match was a decider between Gavin and Dan with Dan coming back from two sets down and taking the fifth set to deuce. Gavin took the final game 12-10 and the round 3-2.
Round 3
The third round saw Chris and Arie against Guo and Tan. Both Guo and Tan beat Arie in the singles, but Chris won both her singles and the doubles went to Chris and Arie, so they took the round 3-2.
The other match-up was Gavin and Lynn against Helene who was paired with Mark. The doubles was very close with Helene and Mark taking it 11-9 in the fifth. Having lost to Gavin in straight sets in the previous round, Mark managed to change tactics and beat Gavin in straight sets. Helene and Mark took the round 3-2.
Round 4
Round four saw Tan and Guo take on Helene who was paired with Gavin.Both Tan and Guo beat Helene and they crucially took the doubles in four sets, coming through to take the round 3-2.
The other match was Mark and Dan versus Chris and Arie. The first match between Mark and Chris was very close, with Chris taking the final set 12-10. In the final match, Dan proved problematic for Arie as Dan took it to deuce in the fifth game, with Dan wining 12-10. Overall Chris and Arie took the round 4-1.
Round 5
The final round saw Tan and Guo taking on Gavin and Lynn. Each match went to four games with the exception of Tan against Lynn which went to five games with Tan winning the fifth 11-5. Gavin and Lynn took the round 4-1.
The other match-up was Helene, paired with Arie, against Mark and Dan. The crucial match proved to be the doubles which Mark and Dan took in four sets. Overall, Mark and Dan won 3-2.
Final Table
Chris and Arie took the event without a loss. Lynn & Gavin and Daniel & Mark finished with exactly the same points, wins, loses, for and against but countback gave second place to Lynn and Gavin by 41-39 sets.

Overall, a great day was had by all with some great competition. A big thank you to Peter for organising the day. Also thanks to Sarah for her help throughout the day and to Lorraine Head for the refreshments.
