The top 2 in the Premier Division met on 8 December at Meopham for what was set to be a cracking match.
Both teams were virtually at full strength. Meopham A fielded a very strong team, welcoming back Alastair McTavish from Telford, John Boreham and Brian Lees. Dartfordians A fielded Peter Davis, George Dianin and Ian Martin.
There were some very good quality matches. McTavish was too strong on the night and won his 3 fairly comfortably, Boreham also won his 3 but was taken to deuce in the 5th by Ian Martin who proved an awkward opponent and caused problems all night for Meopham.
Lees played very well to beat Dianin in straight games but then found it too challenging to go from playing the spin game of Dianin to the dead bat game of Martin and lost quite easily. Lees then had a good tussle with Davis, they both know each others games well from other leagues and on this occasion Davis proved too strong in 4. With the doubles going to Meopham the final score was a terrific 8 - 2 win for Meopham A who have built up a reasonable lead at the half way point of the season but with several challenging matches to come the title remains all to be played for.
Question
When was the last time that George Dianin lost all 3 matches in the Gravesend League (or any league?).
